Clinton is a town in Kennebec County, Maine, United States. The population was 3,340 at the 2000 census.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 44.8 square miles (116.1 km²), of which, 43.9 square miles (113.7 km²) of it is land and 0.9 square miles (2.5 km²) of it (2.12%) is water.

Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there were 3,340 people, 1,278 households, and 953 families residing in the town. The population density was 76.1 people per square mile (29.4/km²). There were 1,409 housing units at an average density of 32.1/sq mi (12.4/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 98.08% White, 0.12% Black or African American, 0.21% Native American, 0.06% Asian, 0.18% from other races, and 1.35% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.96% of the population. There were 1,278 households out of which 36.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.2% were married couples living together, 9.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 25.4% were non-families. 19.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.61 and the average family size was 2.95. In the town the population was spread out with 26.6% under the age of 18, 8.8% from 18 to 24, 30.4% from 25 to 44, 24.7% from 45 to 64, and 9.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 101.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.4 males. The median income for a household in the town was $32,419, and the median income for a family was $37,652. Males had a median income of $28,667 versus $21,051 for females. The per capita income for the town was $15,052.
