Clarence is a city in Shelby County, Missouri, United States. The population was 915 at the 2000 census.
Geography
Clarence is located at (39.742692, -92.261159)GR1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.0 km²), all of it land.
Demographics
As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 915 people, 398 households, and 228 families residing in the city. The population density was 784.9 people per square mile (302.0/km²). There were 466 housing units at an average density of 399.8/sq mi (153.8/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 98.25% White, 0.44% African American, 0.33% Native American, 0.11% Asian, and 0.87% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.33% of the population. There were 398 households out of which 25.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.0% were married couples living together, 8.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 42.7% were non-families. 39.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 24.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.20 and the average family size was 3.00. In the city the population was spread out with 23.1% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 22.2% from 25 to 44, 23.3% from 45 to 64, and 23.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 81.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 77.8 males. The median income for a household in the city was $21,513, and the median income for a family was $31,397. Males had a median income of $20,469 versus $16,518 for females. The per capita income for the city was $12,970. About 16.1% of families and 19.0% of the population were below the poverty line, including 26.0% of those under age 18 and 17.2% of those age 65 or over.
