Chrome Mozilla is a term used to refer to an interface used by Mozilla applications like Mozilla Firefox and Mozilla Thunderbird. The interface is written in XUL and JavaScript. The Mozilla Gecko rendering engine, which renders the web pages, also renders the user interface. Therefore the user can enter chrome URLs into the Firefox address bar and render inside the browser.

Examples

The examples below have been tested with Firefox 2.0.

  • To display the browser inside the browser, enter in the address bar:
chrome://browser/content/browser.xul (Warning: may crash browsers earlier than 2.0)
  • To display bookmarks inside the browser, enter in the address bar:
chrome://browser/content/bookmarks/bookmarksPanel.xul
  • To display the Javascript console, enter in the address bar:
chrome://global/content/console.xul
chrome://downloadmgr/content/downloadtab.xul
