Christy is an Irish name meaning of Christ, in reference to Jesus. Christy has also been used as an Americanization of Scandinavian last names (for instance the Danish Christiansen) due to emigration to the United States. As a result of this you can still find a small number of Danes with the last name Christy. They are the descendants of a family emigrated to the US in the early 20th century, of which most of the children returned to Denmark in the 1920's. For this reason all but one of the Danish citizens with the last name Christy are blood related. As a first name, Christy is generally considered masculine in Ireland.
