Christopher Perry (born April 26, 1973 in Carshalton, London) is an English football player who plays as a defender for Luton Town, having recently been released by West Bromwich Albion.

Football career

In 1991 Perry started his career at Wimbledon F.C., the team he supported as a boy, and went on to make over 200 appearances for the club before moving to Tottenham Hotspur in 1999, at which time he was possibly touted for England success. When teammate Sol Campbell moved to Arsenal, Perry became a first choice member of the team from the 2001-02 season, until he lost his place in the team thanks to an injury (in January 2003, he incurred a slipped disk). Three months later and upon his return he found himself amongst up and coming stars such as Ledley King and Anthony Gardner, and joined Charlton Athletic in September 2003. Having impressed, his move was made permanent in November 2003,[1] after a £100,000 fee was agreed. Charlton were sitting in fourth place in the league at the time. He subsequently featured frequently in the league, but not nearly as often in other competitions. Perry was released by new Charlton manager Iain Dowie in May 2006.[2] Perry did not leave Charlton because he turned down the offer of a one year contract on £3000 a week less. He had agreed to sign the contract, but the contract offer was retracted when Iain Dowie took over and decided he didn't want to keep any of his out of contract players. On July 4, 2006 he joined West Bromwich Albion on a two year deal.[3] He was released because he rejected the opportunity of a one-year contract offer from Charlton on reduced terms of £3,000 a week less than his previous salary. Perry featured in the Albion side which lost the 2007 Championship play-off final to Derby County. After the match, Perry suggested that Derby were unfit for the Premiership, saying that they "have got no quality apart from Giles Barnes" before adding, "as far as I am concerned, if they defend like they defended against us they will not survive in the Premiership... I think they will come straight back down."[4] Perry was released by West Brom at the end of the 2006-07 season on 1 June 2007.[5] He signed for Luton on July 5, 2007. Perry's goal and performance in Luton's 2–1 home win over Nottingham Forest on 27 October, 2007 earned him a place in the League One Team of the Week.[6]
