Chaos A.D. is an album released in October 1993 by Sepultura through Roadrunner Records. Though the band experienced success previously, Chaos A.D. was their breakthrough album. Chaos A.D. displayed a more groove-driven direction which helped usher the then-forming groove metal genre. This was viewed as a departure from the thrash metal and death metal styling of their earlier efforts and many fans believe they sold out and some only accept albums before this releases. The band also included an acoustic, percussion-led instrumental called "Kaiowas" on the album. This became an interesting focus of later live shows, with the band joining fellow bands onstage, and sometimes featured group drum playing. The album showcased a collaboration with Dead Kennedys' Jello Biafra ("Biotech Is Godzilla") and Evan Seinfeld of Biohazard ("Slave New World"), as well as a cover version of New Model Army's "The Hunt". The song, Refuse/Resist, was featured on one of Manga Entertainment's 90's VHS trailers containing Genocyber, Cyber City Oedo 808, Urotsukidoji, Devilman, Akira among others. The album has sold over 450,000 copies[1].
