The Ceradyne BULL is a misnomer, as the Bull is a trade-mark of Ideal Innovations, Inc. (I-3). I-3 is the developer of an armoring system for heavy military logistics vehicles. Ceradyne, under contract from Ideal Innovations, Inc manufactures the armor and hull components of the proposed MRAP and MMPV vehicles which are built by Oshkosh.[1][2] As with all MRAP II contenders, the design is believed to be able to defeat Explosively Formed Penetrator type IEDs.[3] Explosively Formed Penetrators (EFPs) use a shaped charge to form a hypervelocity jet of metal, capable of cutting through thick armor. The armor system uses a COTS chassis built by Oshkosh Truck.[4] It has been reported that the complete vehicle weighs around 40000 lbs.[5] See a picture of the Ceradyne Bull here.
