Cello 1.01a (16 Mar 1994), running under MS Windows XP
Cello was an early web browser and Gopher client for Windows 3.1. It was developed by Thomas R. Bruce of the Legal Information Institute at Cornell Law School, and publicly released on June 8, 1993. The last edition was version 1.01a, released on April 9, 1994. Cello was created because lawyers used Microsoft Windows on their computers, but web browsers available at the time were mostly for Unix operating systems. This meant many legal experts were unable to access legal information made available in hypertext on the world wide web.
