Castlevania: Dracula X is a platform game developed and published by Konami and based on Akumajou Dracula X: Chi no Rondo, which was previously released on the PC Engine in 1993 (never released outside of Japan until the 2007 PSP remake Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles). It is the final Castlevania installment to be released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. It shares the gameplay and storyline of Chi no Rondo, but the levels had been completely redesigned and many other elements were completely taken out of the game. Thus, the game is essentially seen as an "adaptation" of Chi no Rondo, just as Vampire Killer (October 1986) is seen as an adaptation of Castlevania (September 1986). That makes it technically the last Castlevania game to feature side-scrolling platforming elements rather than the traversal style gameplay seen in all later releases. In Japan, it is known as Akumajō Dracula XX (悪魔城ドラキュラXX Akumajō Dorakyura Ekkusu Ekkusu?, lit. "Demon Castle Dracula XX") and in PAL region, it is known as Castlevania: Vampire's Kiss.

Storyline

Dracula X is set in the year 1792 against the backdrop of a centuries-long conflict between the Belmont clan and Count Dracula, who has been prematurely resurrected by his earthly admirers (led by the dark priest, Shaft in the original PC Engine game). Repeating the kidnapping modus operandi, Dracula abducts the love interest of 19-year-old Richter Belmont (the great-great-grandson of Simon Belmont), Annette Renard, as well as her younger sister, Maria, provoking Richter to confront him in his infamous Demon Castle. Richter sets out to Castlevania, the home of the dark lord, confronting hordes of the Count's undead minions, and frees his love as well as her sister. In the end, Richter defeats the Count (whose spirit survives to return in 1797 in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night), and Richter, Maria, and Annette ride away from the Demon Castle... [1]
