Carlo Carafa (1517-1561) was Cardinal Nephew of Pope Paul IV. His brother was Giovanni Carafa, Duke of Paliano. He had a substantial diplomatic career. In 1560, with his brother, the Count of Aliste, and Leonardo Cardini, he was arrested. After condemnation on a long list of charges, he was executed by strangulation.
