The Brown Album is an album by the alternative rock/ metal band Primus. It was released on July 8, 1997. The album is often cited as somewhat of a departure from the band's established style. Production value on this record differs greatly from previous efforts, including different mixing techniques and the use of 'clipping' (on the drums especially) in some tracks. It is the first official album featuring Bryan "Brain" Mantia on drums. Tom Waits, who has collaborated with the band several times, claims this to be his favorite work by Primus; much of Waits' own work is also made up of stories of dark, seedy characters. The title is a tribute/parody to The White Album by The Beatles.
