BP Canada began operations in 1948 and for many years was in retail operations until Petro-Canada emerged in 1975. BP Canada was created over the years from merger and spin-offs of number of companies:

  • Hudson’s Bay Oil and Gas
  • Dome Petroleum
  • Amoco
  • Crestar Energy
  • CANMAR
  • Syncrude
  • Honolulu Oils

BP retail operations disappeared from Canada in the early 1980s and replaced by Petro-Canada outlets. Today BP operates as producer of natural gas and has operations in Alberta, British Columbia, East Coast and in the North. Its headquarters is in Calgary, Alberta with 1400 employees.
