Saint Brendan of Birr (died c. 573) was an Irish monk, and later abbot, of the 6th century. He was a friend of Brendan of Clonfert; they lived in the same community, Clonard Abbey.[1] Brendan was a spiritual student of Finnian of Clonard, and founded the monastery at Birr in central Ireland in about 540, serving as its abbot.[1] An adviser of Saint Columba, Columba saw a vision of Brendan's soul being carried away by angels after his death.[2]
