Brendan O'Carroll son of Maureen O'Carroll (former TD, Ireland) is a comedian, writer, actor and Director from Finglas, Dublin, Ireland. He is short and balding, often wears a suit, and for a long time had a pony tail, until it was removed by Leeds Utd and Ireland footballer Gary Kelly in 1994 at the USA world cup. The ponytail was subsequently auctioned for charity and was sold for $15,000. O'Carroll has written six novels, The Mammy'The Chisslers'The GrannyThe Young Wan five of which are published in 23 languages and have become best sellers. He has also written four movies and seven stage plays. They are The Course, (1995) Grandads Sure Lilly's still alive,(1997) The Last Wedding (1999) Mourning Mrs Brown (2000) Rides Again (2004) For the Love of Mrs Brown (2007) Much of his comedy is about his childhood in Finglas and Dublin City. He is currently touring with his trilogy of stage plays, Mrs Brown's Last Wedding, Mourning Mrs Brown, and Mrs Brown Rides again, which follow the story of a Dublin "mammy" and her grown-up children. A fourth play in the series For the Love of Mrs. Brown is expected in March 2008. Anjelica Houston starred as Mrs. Brown in the movie version, 'Agnes Brown', based on O'Carroll's novel 'The Mammy'. It was filmed entirely on location in Dublin, Ireland, co-starring O'Carroll himself. O'Carroll also penned the screenplay. O'Carroll, born on September 17th 1955, is the youngest of 11 children. He married Doreen Dowdall at just 20 years of age and has three children, Fiona (1980) Daniel (1984) and Eric (1992). His first Marriage ended amicably in 1998. In 2005, O'Carroll married Actress/Director Jennifer Gibney (Goodbye to the Hill), (Some Mothers Son), (Agnes Brown). They are a very private couple, neither courting press or publicity. O'Carroll had many Job's before enetring the entertainment world quite late at 35 years of age in 1990. Incredibly all of his six books, seven plays, four movies and six stand-up DVD's were written between 1990 and 2006 - equating to producing one work per year. Political pundits expect that he will follow in his Mothers footsteps and enter politics at some point. He is a member of MENSA with an IQ in the top 1% worldwide.
