Brandon Roy (born July 23, 1984 in Seattle, Washington) is an American professional basketball player with the Portland Trail Blazers of the National Basketball Association. Roy attended Garfield High School in Seattle before playing at the University of Washington for four years. Roy was originally an early entry candidate for the 2002 NBA Draft straight out of high school, but withdrew his name before the draft and attended the University of Washington.[1] Roy played for four years under Lorenzo Romar, and in his final year averaged 20.2 points per game while leading the Huskies to a 26–7 season and a second straight Sweet Sixteen appearance.[2] Roy was named Pac-10 player of the year and received All-American honors at the end of the season, while also being a finalist for the Wooden, Naismith, Oscar Robertson, and Adolph Rupp awards.[3] He was selected 6th overall in the 2006 NBA Draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves, but his draft rights were then traded to the Portland Trail Blazers in exchange for the draft rights to 7th overall pick Randy Foye.[4]
