Brady Udall is an American novelist. Brady grew up in a large Mormon family in St. Johns, Arizona.[1] He graduated from Brigham Young University and later attended the Iowa Writers' Workshop.[2] He was formerly a faculty member of Franklin & Marshall College[3] starting in 1998,[4] then Southern Illinois University,[2] and now teaches writing at Boise State University.[5] A collection of his short stories titled Letting Loose the Hounds (ISBN 039304033X) was published in 1998[6] and his debut novel The Miracle Life of Edgar Mint (ISBN 0393020363) was first published in 2001. The characterization and structure of the latter has been favorably compared to the work of John Irving.[7] Thematically it has been compared to Charles Dickens.[2] Michael Stipe has optioned a film adaptation of Miracle, with United Artists hiring Michael Cuesta to direct.[7] Brady recently appeared on an episode of This American Life.[8] Brady is a member of the Udall family, and his great-uncles include former U.S. congressman and Interior Secretary Stewart Udall and former congressman Morris Udall.[2]
