History
Boost Juice was founded by Australian Janine Allis. "In the beginning it was just an idea," she states on her company website, "There are no real healthy options when you go out, why can't there be an easy grab and go thats healthy?". After noticing the juice bar fad in the United States, Allis was inspired to bring it back to Australia. However, rather than duplicating American juice bars, she added her own flair and personality to the concept of "fast food you can feel good about"[2]. Recently Boost Juice has expanded from just selling juice to now selling other products. The new introductions to the product range include Boost Wraps, TD4 Yoghurt, "Boost Bites", popcorn, "Boost Bars", "Hotties" and soups.
Stores
As of October 2007, there are over 200 stores operating in Australia, Chile, Indonesia, Singapore, United Kingdom, South Africa, Kuwait, Macau & Portugal. Boost will be opening in Hong Kong, Dubai and Estonia. The highest grossing company stores are currently Sydney Airport and Melbourne Airport. The highest grossing franchisee stores are currently Knox City and Chadstone. Boost Juice New Zealand operations were closed down in May 2006 after the NZ master franchise (which operated all the New Zealand stores) was put into liquidation. The stores were sold to Tank Juice who are now operating them under the Tank brand [1].
TD4® Yoghurt
TD4® (a pun - "To Die For") is a registered trademark of Boost Juice Pty Ltd. TD4 is Boost's exclusive low-fat frozen yoghurt which contains live cultures Streptococcus thermophillis and Lactobacillus delbrueckii for added nutritional benefits.
Sugar Content
Boost Juice is regularly being critiscised for it's high sugar content - although it seems as if they are meaning to mislead on nutriotional information in there calculators which states sugar contents for each 100ml - despite the fact they have sizes that range from 350mls-650mls One of their highest sugar drinks is the, "Blueberry Blast" which contains 96.2g of sugar in a 650ml size!, other high sugar drinks include the "Green Tea Mango Mantra" with 93.6g of sugar in the 650ml size, and the "Raspberry Ripe" with 85.45g of sugar in the 650ml size! Sugar content of some of there smoothies is almost comparable to an entire meal from McDonalds! Boost Juice actively fights claims of high sugar content, despite the fact that they use Chocolate that contains Sugar, along with it's "TD-4" yoghurt, and Plain Sorbet!
