BlackJack and BlackBerry brand controversy
In January 2007, Research In Motion, creators of the BlackBerry series of handhelds filed suit in United States federal court claiming the BlackJack trademark was too similar to the BlackBerry mark.[1] They allege Samsung has named their smartphone with a word beginning with "Black" just to mislead the customers that would come to the cellphone stores with the intention to purchase a BlackBerry. A month later the two parties settled out of court.[2] While the details of the settlement were secret, Research In Motion stated the settlement "does include limitations on use of the Blackjack[sic] trademark, withdrawal of the trademark application for Blackjack, Cingular's retention of common law rights in the Blackjack trademark, and certain reasonable measures to avoid confusion in the marketplace."

Below are some of the documented defects with this phone:
- Much shorter talk and standby time than advertised. New units now ship with an optional 'extended' battery and battery cover.
- Some users experience bluetooth synchronization problems with Windows XP(SP2) and Windows Vista host computers.
- Some Blackjack phones have an internal defect that prevents the microSD slot from reading a card. The phone can be replaced at no charge if within the 1 year warranty.
Windows Mobile 6 update
Both Samsung and AT&T have withheld most information as to when Windows Mobile 6 will be released to the public for the BlackJack. Many forum discussions, including those from current BlackJack owners, are congested by phony release dates, and venting consumers who would like either company to set an official release date. Various internal Beta test releases have been publicly leaked on the internet, but an official release is not yet available.
