Betsy V. Boze (rhymes with rose) is an American academic and university administrator.[1] She currently serves as the chief executive officer, Dean and Professor of Marketing at Kent State University Stark Campus in North Canton (Stark County) Ohio, which received a 2006 Presidential recognition for the campus' commitment to service learning. Biography
Boze was born and grew up in Shreveport, Louisiana. She is the daughter of the late Dr. Leroy Vogel, Cultural Attache to post-war Germany and Dean of Centenary College of Louisiana and Betty Garrett Vogel McDonald a travel writer and broadcaster. She is the granddaughter of U.S. Congressman (Alabama) Oscar Lee Gray and stepdaughter of the late Paul Cranford McDonald President of Murphy Oil Company Canada. She is the mother of three children. Her son Lee-Gray Boze is President of American Petroleum, a petroleum geology company specializing in karst; daughter Broox Garrett Vogel Boze is in a doctoral program in zoology at Colorado State University and Christopher Boze is in flight school and lives in Anchorage, Alaska. Boze is a member of the Junior Leagues of Shreveport, Louisiana and Canton, Ohio, Brookside Country Club (Ohio), First United Methodist Church (Shreveport, LA) and a lifetime member of the Girl Scouts of America. She is also a member and/or contributor to a number of environmental, fine and performing arts, educational and alumni organizations. She was recognized by NISOD (National Organization for Staff and Organizational Excellence) for excellence in higher education administration [2]
Education
Boze attended Southfield School and graduated from C. E. Byrd High School where she became active in social and environmental causes, including the first Earth Day [3] She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in psychology and a Masters in Business Administration from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. She went on to study international management at Thunderbird - The Garvin School of International Management Thunderbird in Glendale, Arizona, Spanish at ITESM, Monterrey Institute of Technology in Monterrey, Mexico, and Japanese at the International Christian University (ICU) in Mitaka, Japan. Boze earned her Ph.D. in Business Administration majoring in marketing with minors in economics and sociology from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

Dr. Boze's post-doctoral studies include The University of Hawaii Pan Asian Institute (1990), HERS Bryn Mawr Higher Education Resource Symposium, Summer Institute for Women in Higher Education Administration (1996), American Association of State Colleges and Universities Millennial Leadership Institute (2002),MLI Career Advancements (PDF)American Council on Education Fellowship (2003-2004), and the Harvard University Seminar for New Presidents (2005).
Dr. Boze is a graduate of Leadership Texas (1996), Leadership America (2003)[2]and Leadership Stark County (2005).[3]
Faculty, Teaching, and Administrative appointments
She has held full time faculty and administrative appointments at St. Bonaventure University in Olean, New York, University of Maryland University College (Japan, Germany and Italy), Centenary College of Louisiana and The University of Alaska Anchorage where she was appointed Business Administration Department Chair and elected President of the Faculty Senate.[4] Dr. Boze was selected as the inaugural Dean of the School of Business at The University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College and served as Assistant to the President and American Council on Education Fellow at Tulane University.
Dr. Boze served as the Chief Academic Officer of The University of Texas System "UT TeleCampus" MBAO, [5] and held a Research Faculty appointment as Co-Director of the Texas Ports & Waterways at Texas A&M University. [6] She was a Visiting Faculty for Portland State University in Khabarovsk [Хаба́ровск] in the former Soviet Union and Graduate Assistant for The University of Texas at Dallas and The University of Arkansas (Fayetteville, Arkansas).
Scholarly Record
Dr. Boze has published over 50 peer-refereed research articles and book chapters on marketing and business administration.[7] She writes and speaks publicly on higher education administration, distance education, technology and women's issues.[8][9] Boze was one of the master planners and creators of the University of Texas TeleCampus, the University of Texas System web based, virtual university.[5] She is listed in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who in American Women and Who's Who in the World.
Current Professional and Community Leadership
Dr. Boze is a Higher Learning Commission (HLC) (North Central Association of Colleges and Universities) PEAQConsultant/Evaluator and AQIP Peer Reviewer . She received the 2004 National institute of Staff and Organizational Development Excellence Award and serves as trustee on the boards: American Cancer Society (Ohio) Canton Museum of Art,[10] Greater Canton Chamber of Commerce, Mayor's Literacy Commission (Canton, OH), Ohio Area Health Education Centers, Ohio Citizens for the Arts,[11] Paul and Betty McDonald Foundation, Stark Development Board[12] and the Stark Education Partnership P-16.[13]
Boze serves on Rep. William Healy's mayoral Transition Team and Inaugural Committee. She is President of the Ohio Association of Regional Campuses, the Jackson-Belden Chamber of Commerce Economic Development Committee, the Strategic Planning Committee of the Stark Development Board, the Strategic Planning Committee of the Stark County YMCA, Lake Local Schools and the Greater Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce Education Committee.
National appointments include the Editorial Board of the American Council on Education Network News,[14] the Finance Committee of the American Council on Education Council of Fellows, American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) Women Presidents and Chancellors affinity group and the AASCU Policies and Practices Committee. She is on the faculty of the American Council on Education Department Chairs Workshop, 2007 ACE National and Regional Leadership Forusm, 2006 American Association of State Colleges and Universities Millinnial Leadership Institute and 2007 HERS Bryn Mawr Summer Institute for Women in Higher Education Administration. Boze was also a Team Leader for the 2007 AASCU Hispanic Student Success Report.[15] Dr. Boze has successfully completed terms as:

Dr. Boze served from 1996-2005 as the State Coordinator of the American Council on Education Women's Network for Texas,[16] and continues to serve on the editorial board of the ACE Network News. From 1997-2005 she chaired the Women Administrators in Management Education (the women's affinity group) of the Association for the Advancement of Colleges and Schools of Business.[17] Dr. Boze was Co-Director of the Texas Ports and Waterways Commission of the Texas Transportation Institute,[18] on the boards of Success by Six in Brownsville, TX,[19] Girl Scouts of the USA (Texas).
