Bell is a railway station in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, located in the suburb of Preston, on the Epping railway line. It is in Metcard Zone 1. Bell is unmanned, but will become a Premium Station in the Victorian Government's Public Transport and Liveability statement in May 2006.

Location

The station is located at the southern end of the Bell Street level crossing.

Facilities

The station consists of side two platforms. Platform 1 contains a large weatherboard building while platform 2 contains a small brick building. A large Metcard machine is located at the entrance to platform 1, which is able to dispense most ticketing options available and also accept notes and coins. A small Metcard is located at the entrance to platform 2. Crossovers are located at the DOWN and UP end's of the station, which is used for disprutions or trackwork. Both platforms can be accessed via Bell Street.

History

Bell station opened on Tuesday, October 8, 1889 as Preston - Bell Street. It was later renamed Bell in 1905. A random fact about Bell station is that it has the only monosyllabic name in the entire Melbourne suburban rail system (depending upon how one says Jewell).
