The Bell Shakespeare Company is an Australian theatre company specialising in the works of William Shakespeare. It was founded in 1990 by John Bell. The company is Australia's only National touring company, and a consistent signature of the company is the use of costumes and stages that are either contemporary or anachroistic, but never truly Renaissance in style. Unlike more traditional and "genteel" Shakespeare companies, Bell's band does not shy away from accentuating the sexual innuendos and general bawdiness of Shakespeare's original text.
