Beach is a city in Golden Valley County, North Dakota in the United States. It is the county seat of Golden Valley CountyGR6. The population was 1,116 at the 2000 census. Beach was founded in 1902. The mayor of Beach is Walter Losinski.

Geography

Beach is located at 46°54′57″N, 104°0′16″W (46.915774, -104.004450)GR1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.8 square miles (4.7 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 1,116 people, 470 households, and 292 families residing in the city. The population density was 610.3 people per square mile (235.5/km²). There were 570 housing units at an average density of 311.7/sq mi (120.3/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 98.66% White, 0.18% Native American, 0.18% Asian, 0.54% from other races, and 0.45% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.99% of the population. There were 470 households out of which 28.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.7% were married couples living together, 7.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 37.7% were non-families. 36.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 19.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.29 and the average family size was 3.00. In the city the population was spread out with 25.4% under the age of 18, 5.4% from 18 to 24, 22.0% from 25 to 44, 21.6% from 45 to 64, and 25.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 43 years. For every 100 females there were 80.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 76.3 males. The median income for a household in the city was $28,977, and the median income for a family was $35,536. Males had a median income of $25,515 versus $17,857 for females. The per capita income for the city was $14,450. About 10.9% of families and 17.6% of the population were below the poverty line, including 31.6% of those under age 18 and 7.2% of those age 65 or over.
