Barry Schrader (b. 1945) is a United States contemporary composer of electroacoustic music. He is the founder and the first president of SEAMUS (Society for Electro-Acoustic Music in the United States,) and his compositions for tape, dance, film, video, mixed media, live/electro-acoustic music combinations, and real-time computer performance have been presented throughout the world. His numerous works utilize computers and various hardware synthesizers to create unique timbres. His compositions are significant in that they feature timbre as a primary musical element, in addition to pitch and rhythm. He currently is a member of the composition faculty at the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, CA. To date, he has released three solo albums on Innova, and one collaboration with Hans Joachim Roedelius and Michelle Kinney.
