Bantu Holomisa

Bantubonke Harrington Holomisa[1] (born 1955-07-25[1][2] in Mqanduli, Eastern Cape[1]) is a South African Member of Parliament representing the United Democratic Movement[1]. Holomisa joined the Transkei Defence Force in 1976[1] and had become a Brigadier by 1985[1][3]. He overthrew Prime Minister Stella Sigcau[4] in 1987 and was the Transkei's head of state from 1987 to 1994[1]. In 1994 Holomisa was elected to the African National Congress National Executive Committee[1][2], and was the Deputy Minister of Environment and Tourism of South Africa[1][5]. After testifying at the Truth and Reconciliation Commission he was expelled from the ANC[5] on 1996-09-30[6]. He co-founded the UDM in 1997[5] with Roelf Meyer,[7] and was elected to parliament in 1999[1][5].
