In histology Azan (Az: Azocarmine and An: aniline blue) is used to distinguish cells from the extracellular matrix.

- Muscle fibers red.
- Cartilage and bone matrix deep blue.
Also, in Greek mythology, Azan was the son of Arcas and Erato. Azania in Arcadia was named for him.
