Avon is a city in Stearns County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,242 at the 2000 census. Avon also consists of many lakes all of which are named "Spunk", thus the celebration "Spunktacular (or "Spunk") Days".

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.0 square miles (2.7 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there were 1,242 people, 470 households, and 355 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,201.8 people per square mile (465.6/km²). There were 492 housing units at an average density of 476.1/sq mi (184.4/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 99.36% White, 0.08% Asian, 0.24% from other races, and 0.32% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.48% of the population. There were 470 households out of which 41.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.8% were married couples living together, 8.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 24.3% were non-families. 20.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.64 and the average family size was 3.04. In the city the population was spread out with 29.9% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 31.3% from 25 to 44, 20.5% from 45 to 64, and 11.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 97.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.4 males. The median income for a household in the city was $47,721, and the median income for a family was $53,214. Males had a median income of $37,386 versus $25,238 for females. The per capita income for the city was $19,980. About 1.3% of families and 3.1% of the population were below the poverty line, including 0.8% of those under age 18 and 10.0% of those age 65 or over.
