In astrology, the fall of a planet is the sign or "zoidion" which is opposite that planet's sign of exaltation. Planets in fall are uncomfortable and weak, having much less power to assert their own identity. A planet's "fall" is the sign that seems to resist the planet's nature the most, resulting in impasse & failure. Fall is a form of debilitated essential dignity which is among the most ancient of all astrological concepts still in use, having its origin in Mesopotamian omens, before the beginning of horoscopic astrology. The signs of planetary fall are as follows:
- Sun: in fall in Libra (exalted in Aries)
- Moon: in fall in Scorpio (exalted in Taurus)
- Mercury: in fall in Pisces (exalted in Virgo -- where Mercury is also the domicile ruler)
- Venus: in fall in Virgo (exalted in Pisces)
- Mars: in fall in Cancer (exalted in Capricorn)
- Jupiter: in fall in Capricorn (exalted in Cancer)
- Saturn: in fall in Aries (exalted in Libra)
- The North node of the Moon: in fall in Sagittarius (exalted in Gemini)
- The South node of the Moon: in fall in Gemini (exalted in Sagittarius)
Not all astrological signs have exaltation rulers, and hence not all signs contain fall debilities either.
- Aries is the fall of Saturn
- Taurus does not contain the fall of any planet or point.
- Gemini is the fall of the South node of the Moon, but not of any planet.
- Cancer is the fall of Mars
- Leo does not contain the fall of any planet or point.
- Virgo is the fall of Venus
- Libra is the fall of the Sun
- Scorpio is the fall of the Moon
- Sagittarius is the fall of the North node of the Moon, but not of any planet.
- Capricorn is the fall of Jupiter
- Aquarius does not contain the fall of any planet or point.
- Pisces is the fall of Mercury
