Naval 1º de Maio (pron. IPA: [nɐ'vaɫ pɾi'mɐiɾu dɨ 'maiu]) is a Portuguese football club based in Figueira da Foz that was promoted for the first time to the Portuguese Liga in the 2004-05 season. In their first season in the Liga, the club finished thirteenth, with 39 points. They finished with the same number of points as C.F. Os Belenenses (that would have been relegated if it wasn't for the Mateus affair), but Naval had a better record than them and A. Académica de Coimbra, who also had 39 points, so Naval finished above them. Naval are considered to be an "ugly duckling" of Portuguese football, having one of the lowest attendance rates in the country. Naval are also known for having several different kits, which include the green and white stripes shirt (similar to Sporting Lisbon), the yellow shirt (like Paços Ferreira), an all green shirt and finally a completely white one, using them quite randomly. The Sporting-like shirt is however the main kit. Naval is one of the main teams from the Centro-Region, alongside Académica (arguably the greatest in that region) Beira-Mar and União Leiria.
