Ariobarzanes II, named Philopator (Greek: loving his father), was the king of Cappadocia from ca. 63 or 62 BCE to ca. 51 BCE. He married the daughter of nearby King Mithridates VI of Pontus, Athenais, and was an ineffective ruler, requiring the aid of Gabinius in 57 BCE to ward off his enemies. He was successful in maintaining rule over Cappadocia for approximately 8 years before being assassinated by Parthian favorites. He was succeeded by his son Ariobarzanes III Eusebes Philoromanus.
