Andrea McLean (born 5 October 1969 in Glasgow, Scotland) is a Scottish weather forecaster and television presenter. She was raised in Trinidad and Tobago - hence her distinctive Scots/Caribbean accent. She trained as a journalist, and after graduation McLean backpacked around the world, taking on jobs as diverse as a grill chef, barmaid, shop assistant, receptionist and factory worker. She then started her career as a travel writer in 1993. In 1994 she became a staff writer for Central Press Features, covering TV, film, theatre and book reviews. Since 1999, Andrea has been the lead presenter for the weather on GMTV (although now the job is split equally between herself and Clare Nasir) and has also presented shows such as "Our House" (series 1) for UKTV Style and "Loose Women" for ITV, of which she is still presenter. In January 2006, Andrea took part in ITV's reality ice-skating competition Dancing on Ice. Her professional skating partner was Doug Webster. She was eliminated in Week 3. Andrea and fellow ex-contestant Andi Peters presented the weekday fan show Dancing on Ice Extra for the rest of the show's run. McLean filled in for Loose Women's guest host Jackie Brambles, when Brambles went on maternity leave. Now McClean has become the permanent host of Loose Women, a job she shares with Jackie Brambles.
Personal life
Andrea is ethnically from a Russian-Jewish family who converted to Christianity. McLean lived in South London, and was married but separated from BBC producer Nick Green. The couple have a son, Finlay, (born 29 October 2001). After an affair with "Our House" co-presenter/builder Steve Toms, she split with Nick Green. The couple tried to revive their relationship, but McLean got back together with Toms in September 2005 and announced she was expecting their child [1]. Andrea gave birth to Amy Jane Toms on 2 December 2006 and returned to GMTV on 5 March 2007 after her maternity leave. Andrea and Steve (along with Finlay and Amy) live in Surrey, after leaving the busy life of London. Andrea and Steve are re-building their new home (according to her official site).
