Andrés Eloy Blanco (born April 10, 1984) is a Major League Baseball shortstop and switch-hitter batter who played with the Kansas City Royals and, in 2008, will play for the Chicago Cubs. Blanco was born in Caracas, Venezuela. He was named in honor of Andrés Eloy Blanco, a Venezuelan poet, by his father. Blanco made his major league debut on April 18, 2004. He hit .317 (19-for-60) with five RBI, nine runs, two doubles, two triples, and one stolen base in 19 games. He signed a minor league contract to play for the Cubs in November 2007.
