Amy and Emily Walton (born March 15, 2000) are identical twins who have shared the role of Bethany Platt on the soap Coronation Street since birth. Tina O'Brien, who plays their on-screen mother Sarah, is Emily's godmother. In recent years they have began to look less alike, although when they were younger, their mother Shirley and Granada Television, the makers of Coronation Street struggled to tell which twin was Amy or Emily. For the scene in which Richard Hillman, Sarah's then stepfather drove the family van into the canal in 2003, Amy and Emily were fitted with custom made wetsuits. In an interview, Jack P Shepherd, who plays on-screen uncle David Platt, mentioned the canal scene, saying where they filmed the car underwater, they only needed to do one take and use one twin. However the other one was watching and was jealous of how much fun her sister had in the water and so they ended up using her too.
