American Public Media is the brand under which Minnesota Public Radio distributes public radio programming outside of the state of Minnesota. American Public Media is responsible for distribution of Garrison Keillor's well-known weekend program A Prairie Home Companion; on weekdays, its most prominent program is Marketplace.

Historical ties to Public Radio International

Formerly, much of American Public Media's programming content was distributed by Public Radio International, which itself was named "American Public Radio", or APR, until 1 July 1994. APR was formed by four stations, these were: Minnesota Public Radio, WGBH Boston, WNYC New York, and KUSC Los Angeles to distribute A Prairie Home Companion. PRI owns/produces numerous programs today, but still also distributes diverse programming from many sources. In contrast, American Public Media APM predominantly distributes content that it owns; the current exceptions are As It Happens, Sound Opinions, and the BBC Proms.

Programs distributed by American Public Media

Several specials are also distributed by APM on a less frequent basis, including a number of Christmas programs and the BBC Proms.
