American Bird Conservancy, commonly abbreviated ABC, is a charitable organization that works solely to conserve native wild birds and their habitats throughout the Americas. After ABC threatened to sue the U.S. Navy over the San Clemente loggerhead shrike (Lanius ludovicicanus mearnsi) whose habitat was formerly used by the Navy for bombardment training, the Navy agreed to take steps to protect the species and its habitat.[1] ABC and the National Audubon Society have started a campaign known as Cats Indoors, designed to reduce the number of feral cats and to keep pet cats indoors so that they will not kill birds.[2] ABC is a membership organization that has received a top, four-star rating by the independent group, Charity Navigator.[3]
