"Alone" is a song recorded by American rock band Heart. It was composed in 1983 by Tom Kelly and Billy Steinberg, who were also responsible for writing two other number-one U.S. hits: Madonna's "Like a Virgin" (1984) and Cyndi Lauper's "True Colors" (1986). The song was given to Heart and was released as the first single from their ninth studio album Bad Animals. It is a power ballad which begins with a piano line and a subdued vocal from Ann Wilson, only to build to a dramatic love song. "Alone" is Heart's biggest hit, spending three weeks at number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. It is also their most successful single in the UK, where it peaked at number three in the UK Singles Chart. Paula Abdul was choreographer for the video.

Céline Dion version
"Alone" is the fourth single from Céline Dion's latest English-language album Taking Chances. It will be released physically in Europe in early 2008, except the United Kingdom, where "Eyes on Me" will be released instead. The song debuted on the radio in Sweden on December 3 2007 and peaked at number 14 on the airplay chart.[1] On January 3 2008 it entered the Swedish Singles chart at number 60 (on download sales alone).[2] It premiered also on the radio in Poland on December 25 2007. Dion's version of "Alone" was produced by Ben Moody, ex-member of Evanescence. Céline Dion performed this song in various TV shows, during her promotional tour for the Taking Chances album, in November and December 2007. Because of that "Alone" debuted on November 19 2007 at number 85 on the UK Singles Chart, due to digital download sales. For the same reason, after selling 12,535 copies, it entered the following U.S. charts: Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles (number 24), Pop 100 (number 86), and Hot Digital Songs (number 81). In Canada, it debuted at number 57 on the Canadian Hot 100 and number 25 on the Hot Canadian Digital Singles.
