Alex Barron (born June 11, 1970) in Menifee, California) is a race car driver. He began racing in CART in 1998 and made his first Indy Racing League start in 2001. In December of 2006, Barron married a local native of Cincinnati, OH, Kate Kerns, an Indiana University swimmer and co-chair of the NCAA Men's Basketball tournament. They currently reside in San Vejo, California. Barron succeeded in the American Toyota Atlantic series, winning that championship in 1997 under the watchful eye of Lynx Racing which has re-organized as Polestar Racing Group. In 1998, he moved up to drive for Dan Gurney's Champ Car team and stayed there in 1999 before moving to Roger Penske's team following a tragic accident that claimed the life of Uruguay's first Champ Car driver, Gonzalo Rodriguez. He drove a few events in that series in 2000 and 2001, coming close to upset victories on a couple of occasions. Alex was the Co Rookie of the Year in the Indianapolis 500 in 2002. He has two indycar series wins, one at Nashville Speedway and one at Michigan International Speedway. In 2004 and 2005 he drove for Eddie Cheever's Red Bull Cheever Racing. Red Bull sponsorship of the team ended for 2006, leaving Alex unable to remain with the team - he instead took a step backward, returning to the Champ Car Atlantic Championship for 2006 with Polestar Racing Group where he finished 14th in points. Greg Beck has signed him to run races part-time in the IndyCar Series for the 2007 season for CURB/Agajanian/Beck Motorsports. He competed in three races, including the Indy 500.
