An-Nas (Arabic: سورة الناس ), or The Mankind, is the 114th and last sura, or chapter, of the Qur'an, the Muslim holy book. It is a short six-verse invocation, asking Allah for protection from the Satan. It is a Makkan sura.

Arabic Text


بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيمِِ

Bismi Allahi alrrahmani alrraheemi


114:1 قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ النَّاسِ

Qul aAAoothu birabbi alnnasi

Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind,

114:2 مَلِكِ النَّاسِ

Maliki alnnasi

The King of mankind,

114:3 إِلَهِ النَّاسِ

Ilahi alnnasi

The God of mankind,

114:4 مِن شَرِّ الْوَسْوَاسِ الْخَنَّاسِ

Min sharri alwaswasi alkhannasi

From the evil of the sneaking whisperer,

114:5 الَّذِي يُوَسْوِسُ فِي صُدُورِ النَّاسِ

Allathee yuwaswisu fee sudoori alnnasi

Who whispereth in the hearts of mankind,

114:6 مِنَ الْجِنَّةِ وَ النَّاسِ

Mina aljinnati waalnnasi

Of the jinn and of mankind

Notes

It and Surat al-Falaq are together termed the mu'awwidhatayn; dealing with roughly the same theme, they form a natural pair. There is a Sunnah tradition of reading it over the sick or before sleeping.
