Aguinaldo is a folk genre of Christmas music, which originates from Puerto Rico and is based on an archaic form of Spanish christmas carol. Aguinaldo music is often performed by what is called parrandas—a casual group of people, often family or friends, who go from house to house.

Venezuelan aguinaldo
In Venezuela the word aguinaldo is associated with a gift and also with an own musical sort of Christmas. Of ample dispersion in the country, the aguinaldo song is interpreted not only to religious motives, that is to say, to Jesus but also to the human (The Christmas joy), and according to the region it is sung with the support of diverse musical instruments. The aguinaldo is the Christmas musical sort of greater national dispersion. In many communities of Venezuela it is customary for the musicians sing in front of the cross and the pesebres. In the celebration of the Pastores de San Joaquín, the aguinaldos are intoned. The aguinaldo execution of religious type is common in the Paradura del niño celebrated in the states Táchira and Trujillo. The aguinaldos, in many cases, maintain melodies in which the old carols are recognized, but the rhythmical factor and the use of numerous instruments create differences from them. Trinidadian aguinaldo
Aguinaldo or Serenal is a music genre used in Parang (Parranda) a type of Christmas music that come to Trinidad and Tobago from Venezuela. Parranderos announce their arrival in song and seek to gain entry to the homes of family and friends to relate the story of the birth of Christ, and to share in the joy of the message of Peace on Earth and Goodwill to all men.
