History

Peter Mead and Adrian Vickers had founded Mead Davies & Vickers. David Abbott, previously of DDB Worldwide, joined them in 1979 to form Abbott Mead Vickers. Long established as the UK's biggest advertising agency, AMV became the local outpost for the US network BBDO in 1991, via a minority stake. BBDO acquired the remaining shares in 1998, and it was renamed Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO. Subsidiary units include publishing agency Redwood, direct marketer Craik Jones, and integrated agency Proximity, among others.
