A Wilhelm Scream (abbreviated as AWS, and for short known as Wilhelm or the Scream) is a punk rock/melodic hardcore band from New Bedford, Massachusetts[1]. Many people have referenced Strung Out, Hot Water Music, Propagandhi[2], and Strike Anywhere[3] as the band's similar artists. Their name is a reference to the Wilhelm scream, a famous stock sound effect which mainly is used in films[4]. The band previously went by the names Smackin' Isaiah and Koen. The reason for the name changes is unknown. Recently A Wilhelm Scream were in the studio at the Blasting Room in Fort Collins Colorado with legendary punk producer Bill Stevenson, and finished recording the new album. According to the band's official website the album will be "very very fast" and a few songs were dropped because they weren't fast enough.[5] The first released song off the new album, titled Career Suicide[6], was a demo of the song "5 to 9" with an accompanying video. Long-time guitarist Chris Levesque announced on September 28, 2007 that he was leaving the band.[7] Though it was less than 2 weeks before the release of Career Suicide, he stated the following:

"I have maintained for the duration of my time in Smackin' Isaiah/A Wilhelm Scream that when it stopped being fun, I would give it up. The bottom line here is that I just don't enjoy the day-in, day-out grind of being on tour anymore.... There are no personal or creative differences between any of us. None of that bullshit. I still love this band and everything it stands for. The six years that I've spent in SI/AWS have been the best of my life. We've accomplished more than I ever expected, and I take with me with more amazing memories than most people experience in a lifetime.

He also stated that he would play the CD release show for Career Suicide as well as 2 other already scheduled shows. At that point, the band will begin their search for a new guitarist.

Band Members

The band is five-piece, and another guitarist will replace Levesque, who recently left the band. Mike Supina from the band Alucard was used as a temporary replacement for the Fall 2007 tour with Only Crime and The Swellers. The Swellers' guitarist/singer Nick Diener will be filling in during their December 2007 tours with The Fall of Troy and The Flatliners. This marks the second time Diener has toured with the band; in early 2006 he filled in on bass prior to Robinson joining the band.
