History
It opened in 2005, with a concert from Jem. It is in Sauchiehall Street, at the former location of the ABC cinema (hence the name of the venue) and is located just along the road from another of Glasgow's music venues, The Garage.
Structure of Venue
The building comprises two venues, ABC1 and ABC2, and two bars, the Pod Bar and The Polar Bar.
ABC1
ABC1, on the second floor, is the main venue (ABC1) and has a capacity of 1250. It houses major bands that may not be able to sell out the city's other big venues like Barrowlands, The Carling Academy and SECC. Bands who have played in ABC1 include The Raconteurs, Buzzcocks, Richard Ashcroft and The Fratellis, who performed 4 sold out shows in 2 days. Arab Strap also played their final gig there. ABC1 has the world's largest genuine spinning disco ball.
ABC2
ABC2 is a windowless smaller room on the first floor which can hold 350. Bands doing intimate tours or performances normally sell out this venue. Bands who have played in ABC2 include Explosions in the Sky, The Mode and Mono (Japanese band).
