"4ever" is a pop rock song written by Max Martin and Lukasz Gottwald. The song was first recorded by The Veronicas as the first song released from their debut album The Secret Life of.... It was released as a single in Australia in August 2005 and reached number two on the ARIA Charts and number seven in New Zealand. In the U.S., the single was promoted early in 2006 by Archie Comics through a mention in issue #167 of the group's namesake Veronica's comic, which featured a guest appearance and cover picture of The Veronicas and a card containing a code that could be used to download an MP3 version of the song free. The song's music video won the award for best video of the year at the MTV Australia Video Music Awards. [1] In addition, it was featured in the Amanda Bynes comedy film She's the Man; the song is heard during the film itself and its advertisements, and is included in the official soundtrack.

Kim Possible

In 2005, Kim Possible released its Season 3 premier episode "Emotion Sickness". This episode featured the possible relationship between Kim Possible villians, Shego and Drakken. The Veronicas were Kim Possible fans and decided to redo "4Ever" as a promotional video for the episode, which contained clips of Drakken and Shego and The Veronicas dressed in green and black, Shego's signature colors. The Kim Possible version of the song was planned to be put on the third Kim Possible music album along with a song by Nicole Sullivan (Shego's voice actress) called "With Envy". Disney however axed plans for this album and instead invested in the CD releases of "Hannah Montana", "High School Musical" and "Jump In". 4Ever was later put on the 2006 "Girls Next" CD with no mention of Kim Possible. The Veronicas were quoted as saying "Well... jeez... I mean we thought they were gonna make a new Kim Possible CD with our song on it. Oh well!" Nicole Sullivan's song for Shego, "With Envy", was put on the Disney Mix Japanese Album. This song and "4Ever" were never actually featured in an episode.

Covers

  • False Start recorded a cover of "4ever".
  • The Vines also recorded a cover of "4ever" for the compilation "No Man's Woman" - a collection of songs originally released by females being re-recorded by males. They slowed the song down completely making it almost ballad-like.
  • The Real Booty Babes released the single "4ever" - which was more of a dance/pop version.
