A Popular Dictionary of Judaism

ZOHAR

(Hebrew. ‘Splendour’) A *Kabbalistic work. The Zohar is a collection of several works supposedly dating back to the 2nd Century.

It contains a mystical commentary on the *Pentateuch and on much of the *Hagiographa. It was probably composed by Moses b. Shem Tov in the 13th Century and was enormously influential in kabbalistic circles. Many commentaries have been written on it.
