A Popular Dictionary of Buddhism

Zen Logic

Zen training is a process of transcending thought, for the intellect functions in duality, and the ‘moment’ of Zen experience is in Non-duality. Normal logic is therefore worse than useless to achieve this experience; it binds the mind in the coils of concept. Only when it is seen that A is A because A is not-A is the mind set free.

This logic is the fruit of Zen experience and not a means to it. It can be stated, therefore, but not be the subject of intellectual argument. Nevertheless Dr Suzuki for one has described it as far as possible. See, for example, his Introduction to Zen Buddhism, pp. 46–50.
