Vouli ton Ellinon

Vouli ton Ellinon, or the Hellenic Parliament, is the unicameral parliament in Greece. It is made up of 300 members who are elected by a system of proportional representation for a four-year term. The most recent elections were held on 7 March 2004. In the current parliament there are four parliamentary groups (number of seats in brackets): New Democracy (165); the Panhellenic Socialist Movement (117); the Communist Party of Greece (12); and the Coalition of the Left of Movements and the Ecology (6). In the current parliament 42 (14%) of the 300 members are women. As well as its legislative role, the Vouli ton Ellinon holds the government to account and is responsible for electing the President of Greece.
