An ideal state suggested in Plato’s Republic and Thomas More’s Utopia. In subsequent centuries many socialists, including OWEN and FOURIER, devised utopian community schemes. Many utopias attempt to minimize the amount of work and division of labour in favour of an egalitarian existence conforming to a regimented life-style.
