Unity List-The Red-Greens
The Unity List-The Red-Greens, or Enhedslisten-De Rød-Grønne, is a democratic socialist party in Denmark that was founded in 1989 through a merger of three left-wing parties: the Socialist Party, the Communist Party and the Socialist Workers’ Party. Unity List aims to combine the politics of social change with a politics of engagement with environmental issues. The party is anti-capitalist and opposes Denmark’s membership of the European Union on the grounds that it is ‘an agent for market forces and the exploitation of Eastern Europe and developing countries’. In elections held on 8 February 2005 the party won six seats in the 179-seat Folketing. This was two more than the number it occupied in the parliament elected in 2001.
Party Leader: The party does not have a chairperson, but a collective leadership of 21 members.
