One of the AMINO ACIDS, it is a precursor of the CATECHOLAMINE neurotransmitters DOPAMINE and NORADRENALINE. It is supplied by the diet and can in addition be synthesized in the liver. The enzyme TYROSINE HYDROXYLASE catalyses the conversion of tyrosine to DOPA.
