An ENZYME, tyrosine hydroxylase catalyses the conversion of TYROSINE to DOPA (see L-DOPA) which is converted to DOPAMINE by amino acid decarboxylases. Dopamine can be further converted to NORADRENALINE and ADRENALINE. It is the RATE-LIMITING STEP in the synthesis of catecholamines.
