An amino acid and precursor of the neurotransmitter SEROTONIN. A series of studies have examined the relationships between the tryptophan content of the diet and concentrations of serotonin in brain.

Meal composition does appear able to influence brain neurochemistry, but the relationships and transport systems involved are complex.
